How to Clean Tilt-Turn Windows

One of the quiet joys of tilt-turn windows is how easy they are to clean — even on upper floors. Because the whole sash swings inward, you can wash the outside of the glass from inside your home. Here's how to do it and keep everything running smoothly.

Cleaning the glass

• Turn the handle to the horizontal (turn) position and swing the sash fully inward.
• Wash both the inside and outside faces of the glass with a soft cloth or squeegee and a mild glass cleaner.
• Return the sash and turn the handle down to lock it closed.

Caring for the seals

Wipe the rubber gaskets occasionally with a damp cloth and, once or twice a year, treat them with a silicone-based gasket conditioner to keep them supple and airtight. Avoid harsh solvents, which can dry them out.

Lubricating the hardware
